Snowed in AND sick… ugh!

So I know that as I have been sick and snowed in the last 5 days I should have had plenty of time to post plenty of entries – but sadly I was not interesting enough nor was I thinking clearly enough to write.  Here is a catch-up of the last week here at House of Lyons:

Our front yard and neighbors

This past weekend Tennessee had one of the biggest snows we had seen in 7 years!  We had anywhere from 3-5 inches across the middle of the state – it snowed for a good 12 hours straight on Friday!  It was so beautiful and magical.  Friday night the big flakes turned into sleet and ice so by Saturday morning you could walk on the snow and not even sink in – the ice was hard as a rock.   We had a few moments of snow here and there Saturday but overall we stayed snowed in and toasty!  The sun came out Sunday and the melting started.  It was so freaky hearing the snow and ice slowly melt and fall off the roof and fall to the ground two stories below.  It got down to 19 degrees that night and all that melted snow hardened back into some nasty ice.  That happened over and over, each day the snow decreased a little, then hardened back into ice causing schools to be out until today!  We still have a little snow here and there, but it is pretty much done.  Of course, they are calling for more snow this weekend…. yikes!

My best friend this week

You could say that we we got a double dose of house arrest this weekend – if it wasn’t for the snow, we would be quarantined in the house anyway since 2/3 of the Lyons Family was sick!  Friday night “the bug” came to get my bug and I.  Runny nose, cough, slight fever, exhaustion – all those fun head cold symptoms.  I can deal with it – give me some meds, junk food, a few naps (and a caring husband!) and I’ll get through it.

Charlotte is another story.  It is the WORST seeing your baby sick.  Not only are you so sad that she is hurting and you want to take away all her pain – there is literally squat that you can do to fix it.  Alternating Tylenol and Ibuprofen, then Benedryl, little vicks vapor rub and a humidifier at night to help her sleep and that’s it.  I have used the bulb syringe more times than I can count over the last 5 days. The kiddo is a trouper though, she still had a smile for us anytime we wanted one, she still wanted to play as long as she could have the energy to do so, and she even cuddled more than normal with her mama and dada.  But I would be sick for another week, heck, another month, if she could not go through any of it.

The worst part was last night when she had so much mucus in her belly that she threw up :(  Jeff and I ran into her room about 2 hours after she went to bed and she was still pretty asleep and laying in bed throwing up.  Jeff was a trooper and picked her up to hold her as she continued to vomit, what a Dad.  After changing out her sheets we laid her back down and she fell right back asleep.  All that to say, as awful as those 10 minutes or so were last night, it helped SOOO much in the long run.  Today was much better – less runny nose and cough, not as tired, even ate a little bit at each meal!  I’m hoping that we are on the way back up to normal.  I am feeling a lot better myself too – though my kleenex box may disagree!   Hoping we are both back to 100% by this weekend for our Super Bowl party!  (here is a pic of the only chance Charlotte and I had to get out in the snow – 2 minutes on the front porch!)

This is as 'outside' as Charlotte and I got!

I must give a shout out to Jeff/husband/Dada.  He has been so amazing these last few days.  He takes care of me, he takes care of her, and he worked so hard on an amazing new video and website for his company Light and Story.  Check out his website that he just re-launched with great videos!   Our fear now is that he will get our bug and then I’ll be the one with 2 babies on my hands…

  1. Where are you all living now? Are you still watching kids in your home? How many do you have? How much do you charge, if you don’t mind me asking?
