12 Month Check Up

Today Charlotte and I headed to Pediatric Associates of Franklin to meet with her pediatrician, Dr. MeNeely.   At this appointment we were just checking in to see how she is growing and developing, and of course getting some yucky vaccinations. :(

Proud to report that Charlotte is 21 pounds and 7.2 ounces (55%) and 30 inches long (75%).  If there was any doubt, still confirmed she is the tall skinny kiddo we know and love.  The doctor was very pleased with her growth and how she has progressed into eating adult foods.  The goal is now to have her weaned from a bottle by 15 months.  She still loves her bottles 4x a day so for now we will move to the next step formula for 12-18 month olds and then slowly start decreasing the bottles and increasing the amount of milk given in the sippy cup at meals. So if she gets off a bottle soon does that mean she really isn’t a baby anymore!?!

He also sat with us for a bit and watched Charlotte play and walk around and was thrilled with how good she is getting on 2 feet.  Went down the checklist: Clapping, pointing, peek-a-boo, starting her first words, finding toys we hide, and so on and she got big ‘checks’ on all of them!  Dr MeNeely did say that because she is now walking, her energy will turn from learning how to walk to learning how to talk so in the next few months and her vocabulary will explode!  I can’t wait for this.  She is already babbling in what sounds like sentences – maybe it will be like her walking – go from a few steps to walking everywhere in under a week!

Next was checking all her parts – nose, eyes, ears, belly, etc – all good!! Sadly, the nurse had to come in and do the 3 shots next.  I always hate this part.  She is usually pretty good with shots, but with this trip she has gotten much stronger and is more mobile than previous visits so we had to actually hold her down pretty hard to keep her strong legs still.  It was not fun for momma :(  After a few minutes of crying, a couple goldfish and a visit to the window to see outside, she was a happy girl again.  We are now safe from MMR, Chicken pox, and Hep A. whoopee.

We are so proud of how Charlotte learns and loves and plays, good check up’s like this always make us feel like maybe we are doing something right as parents, lol.  Here are a few photos of Charlotte being a naked baby and playing while waiting on the doctor.
