First Birthday

Charlotte turned 1 on January 23rd!  It has been such an amazing year, Jeff and I are so blessed to be her parents.  To see how far this little girl has come in such a short time is astounding: rolling to crawling to walking, cooing to babbling to her first words, bottles to baby food to adult food, but smiling all the while! What a sweet girl Charlotte Anne Lyons is.  We say over and over that she really is the best baby ever.  She has a spectacular personality, has a grin for everyone, is a ham for any camera (cell phones included!), and is rarely upset and when she is, she is easily calmed.  I know parents are always partial, but I don’t know what we did to deserve such a fantastic child and how the two of us had such a beautiful baby!

The celebration started with a birthday lunch at our home for family.  We had my dad’s parents Nana and Poppa, Jim and Jo (Jeff’s parents), my parents Scott and Marianne, my sister Hannah, and my dear friend Sarah.  I must pause to give a huge thank you to Sarah. My dear friend from Bowling Green KY came down Friday evening to help bake and decorate, she stayed through Saturday and helped with the party, even stayed that night to help with clean up (and we had some girl time of course!), and then got to visit The Bridge for the first time. I don’t know what jeff and I would have done without her help!  She is an amazing baker and great cook so she was our chef for the day!

After we had lunch, Charlotte was set to open all her gifts – and what a pile she had! Not that I will be able to name them all, but she got: tons of clothes for summer/fall/winter next year, shoes, hat, books, little people blocks, great squishy cars, a kitchen, big girl dishes, a spinning top, stuffed animals, her first purse, shape sorter/block set, movies, and a monogramed bag.  She was interested off and on with the actual opening of the gifts, she loved eating the bows, and once we actually took some of the toys out of the package, she enjoyed the gifts :)

It was perfect timing that as we were wrapping up the present portion of the afternoon, we had our first friends arrive! Between 1:30 and 2:30 we had a steady stream of friends come to visit the birthday girl and have a cupcake (or two!)  Charlotte dug into her own cupcake and really enjoyed it!  She was a little timid at first, but then found out that she liked the icing so she picked up the cupcake and went straight for the top and had some cute icing smears all over her face.  After some time with the icing she discovered the strawberry cake hidden underneath!  She ate just about all the cupcake when all was said and done, and while she made a mess she did really well!  It was so much fun seeing her have so much fun!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to love on Charlotte during her special day.  We have such amazing friends and family that have supported and loved us during this past year as we have grown into the role of parents.  We love you all!  Enjoy the photos below and visit my MobileMe gallery for more.
